Daily Pic: In the Art Unlimited section of the Basel fair, Walead Beshty is presenting his “Copper Surrogate” piece. The three panels start out as mirror-finished metal and then, as they get moved and hung in various art spaces, they tarnish wherever a hand has touched them. They work almost like photographs, automatically recording the world they move through. Normally, everything is done to remove any traces of the passage of art through the system. It’s great to see Beshty revealing it.
