The other day, after conversing with a friend about the rubber bracelet fad kicked off by Lance Armstrong’s LIVESTRONG bracelets in the summer of 05, I got to thinking. I got to thinking alright…thinking it is slightly peculiar that arguably the most talented athelete in the world, who is a returning 7-time Tour de France champion, and a testicular cancer survivor has the last name ‘Armstrong’. Think about it.
So we later took a little trip over to his wiki-page where it is revealed that Lance Armstrong was born, Lance Edward Gunderson. Why ‘ARM’? He is a cyclist for chrissakes. Were Lance Legstrong and Cyclestrong already taken? Maybe he had intentions of being a world class arm wrestler before diving in to the world of competitive cycling? Maybe he decided on the name after completing a block of pushups. And the best part is…initials for Lance Edward Gunderson = LEG. “Hey Lance, pretty amazing you are the best cyclist in the hisory of the sport and your initials are LEG, rock on dude!”
So next time you buy a yellow rubber bracelet, remember you are helping the Lance Edward Gunderson Foundation. LIVEGUNDERSON.
