Police use gas to evict Occupy Oakland protesters in the middle of the night.
Oakland mayor Jean Quan in a statement: “Over the last week it was apparent that neither the demonstrators nor the City could maintain safe and sanitary conditions.”

Protesters affiliated with the Occupy Wall Street movement marched to Lownsdale Square in Downtown Portland this afternoon. Unofficial estimates from the protestors put their ranks at around 10,000.
Portland’s mayor, Mayor Sam Adams, tweeted earlier this evening he actually welcomed the protesters: “Just popped outside of #PDX City Hall to greet the #OccupyPortland crowd passing on SW Jefferson & thank them for having a peaceful event.” And to the conspiracy theorists in NYC who say Twitter’s blocking #occupywallstreet (which the company has consistently denied), #occupyportland is trending.
